SUMMARY:FLVC/PDA Series: Embracing Failure: Accepting and Addressing Imposter Phenomenon for Growth
DESCRIPTION:Description: Our roles as librarians span teaching and 
 research\, yet surrounded by subject specialists\, doubts about our 
 knowledge can arise. This presentation invites discussion on these doubts 
 and strategies for success. Presenters will address the Imposter 
 Phenomenon's impact on careers\, factors that contribute to our imposter 
 feelings\, and lastly\, building strategies to help us move forward. This 
 presentation aims to foster an open discussion among library staff\, 
 exploring how embracing failure can enhance learning and cultivate a more 
 responsive workplace. \n\nTopics Include:\n\n1: What failure looks like for 
 us? \n\n2: How does imposter syndrome/phenomenon shows up in our work? 
 \n\n3: What factors do you believe contribute to you feeling like an 
 imposter? \n\n4: What strategies do you use to feel successful?\n\n \n\n 
 \n\nPresenters: \n\n\n\n\n\nPaloma Barraza - History\, Iberian\, and Latin 
 American Studies Librarian\, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities\n\nPaloma 
 Barraza joined the University of Minnesota Libraries in 2023 as the 
 History\, Iberian\, and Latin American Studies for the Arts\, Humanities\, 
 & Area Studies Department for the University of Minnesota Libraries. Prior 
 to her arrival\, she worked at the University of Northern Colorado 
 Libraries as their course reserve specialist. Paloma has experience working 
 with archives\, museums\, and academic and public libraries. Paloma holds a 
 master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of 
 Arizona and a master’s degree in Art History\, with a focus on the Art of 
 the Americas\, from the University of New Mexico.\n\n \n\n\n\nMargarita 
 Shawcross -Teaching & Learning Librarian\, University of Northern 
 Colorado\n\nMaggie Carrillo Shawcross is a Teaching and Learning Librarian 
 at the James A. Michener Library\, University of Northern 
 Colorado–Greeley. She received her master’s in public health from the 
 University of Northern Colorado and is a certified health education 
 specialist (CHES) through the National Commission for Health Education 
 Credentialing (NCHEC). Before becoming a librarian\, she worked in public 
 health as a health educator in various capacities. Her professional library 
 experience includes serving as a consumer health librarian at a hospital 
 and an adult services librarian at a public library. She received her 
 Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Denver.
